Tin(IV) chloride, also known as stannic chloride, has the chemical formula SnCl4. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature with a pungent odor. Tin(IV) chloride is a covalent compound, unlike most other metal chlorides which are ionic. It is highly corrosive and reacts vigorously with water, undergoing hydrolysis to form tin(IV) hydroxide and hydrochloric acid.

SnCl4 can be synthesized by the direct chlorination of tin metal at elevated temperatures. It is an important intermediate in the production of other tin compounds. It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in Friedel-Crafts acylation reactions. Additionally, it finds application as a mordant in dyeing, a source of tin in electroplating baths, and in the manufacture of glass and ceramics. Due to its corrosive nature and reactivity with moisture, it must be handled with care in a well-ventilated area, and stored in tightly sealed containers. Its vapors are irritating to the respiratory system and eyes.
