Tigrinya is a Semitic language spoken primarily in Eritrea and the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. It is the most widely spoken language in Eritrea and is one of the country's official working languages. In Ethiopia, it is the language of the Tigray people and is spoken by over 7 million people. Tigrinya is closely related to Ge'ez, the ancient liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
