Thiodiethanol, also called bis(2-hydroxyethyl) sulfide, is an organosulfur compound with formula C4H10OS and structure HO-CH2-CH2-S-CH2-CH2-OH. It features a thioether linkage between two hydroxyethyl groups, making it both a diol and a thioether.

In industry it is produced and sold as a chemical intermediate for polymer manufacturing. As a diol, it can function as a chain extender or crosslinker in polyurethane and related resins, introducing sulfide linkages into polymer backbones. It can also be converted into derivatives through reactions of the hydroxyl groups, enabling the synthesis of esters, carbonates, and ethers.

Properties and handling: Thiodiethanol is a colorless liquid, miscible with water and many organic solvents. It is sensitive to oxidation and should be stored in closed containers away from oxidizers.
