Thermoregulators are devices designed to maintain a specific temperature within a given environment or system. The core function of a thermoregulator is to sense the current temperature and then activate or deactivate a heating or cooling element to bring the temperature closer to a desired setpoint.

The mechanism typically involves a temperature sensor, a control circuit, and an actuator. The sensor, such as a thermostat or thermocouple, measures the ambient temperature. This measurement is then fed to the control circuit, which compares it to the predefined setpoint. If a deviation is detected, the control circuit sends a signal to the actuator. For instance, in a home heating system, if the room temperature drops below the setpoint, the thermoregulator signals the furnace to turn on. Once the desired temperature is reached, it signals the furnace to turn off.
