Tasavvufi refers to Sufism, a mystical dimension of Islam. It is a path of spiritual development that seeks to attain direct knowledge of God and to experience divine love. Sufis, also known as dervishes, practice various spiritual disciplines such as remembrance of God (dhikr), meditation, fasting, and asceticism to purify their hearts and draw closer to the divine.

The origins of Sufism can be traced back to the early Islamic period, with its development influenced by Christian monasticism, Neoplatonism, and other mystical traditions. Over centuries, Sufism evolved into diverse orders or tariqas, each with its own unique practices and spiritual lineages. Prominent figures like Rumi, Ibn Arabi, and al-Ghazali have significantly contributed to Sufi thought and literature.

Sufism emphasizes inner transformation, the love of God, and the importance of a spiritual guide or shaykh. The ultimate goal is annihilation of the ego (nafs) in God (fana) and subsistence in God (baqa), leading to a state of profound spiritual union. While Sufism is an integral part of Islamic tradition, its mystical and devotional aspects have also attracted interest beyond the Muslim world.
