Tahdistintyyppejä refer to different classifications or categories of pacemakers. Pacemakers are medical devices that generate electrical impulses to regulate the heart's rhythm. They are implanted to treat conditions like bradycardia, where the heart beats too slowly, or heart block, where the electrical signals in the heart are disrupted.

The most common classification of pacemakers is based on the number of chambers of the heart they stimulate. Single-chamber pacemakers stimulate only one chamber, typically the right ventricle or the right atrium. Dual-chamber pacemakers stimulate two chambers, usually both the right atrium and the right ventricle, allowing for a more natural synchronization of atrial and ventricular contractions. Biventricular pacemakers, also known as cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices, stimulate both ventricles and sometimes the atrium, which can help coordinate the pumping action of the heart in patients with heart failure.

Another way to categorize pacemakers is by their sensing capabilities. Demand pacemakers only deliver impulses when the heart's intrinsic rate falls below a certain programmed level. These devices sense the heart's natural electrical activity and fire only when needed.

Pacemakers can also be classified by their programmability. Basic pacemakers have fixed settings, while advanced pacemakers are programmable, allowing physicians to adjust pacing parameters such as rate, sensitivity, and output to optimize therapy for individual patients. Furthermore, pacemakers can be either temporary, used for short-term support, or permanent, implanted for long-term management of heart rhythm disorders. The choice of pacemaker type depends on the patient's specific cardiac condition and medical needs.
