Süsteolisel refers to a phase in the cardiac cycle. It is the period during which the heart muscle contracts and ejects blood from the ventricles. This contraction is essential for pumping blood throughout the body. The term originates from the Greek word "systole," meaning "contraction."

During systole, the atria also contract, pushing blood into the ventricles. Following atrial systole, ventricular systole begins. The ventricles contract forcefully, increasing pressure within them. This elevated pressure forces the semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonary valves) to open, allowing blood to be pumped into the aorta and pulmonary artery, respectively. Simultaneously, the atrioventricular valves (mitral and tricuspid valves) close, preventing backflow of blood into the atria.

The duration and intensity of systole are crucial for maintaining adequate blood circulation. Blood pressure measurements, such as systolic blood pressure, represent the peak pressure within arteries during ventricular contraction. High or low systolic pressure can indicate various cardiovascular conditions. Understanding systole is fundamental to comprehending the mechanics of the heart and its role in overall health.
