Sähkönjännitteet refers to electrical voltages. Voltage is the electric potential difference between two points, and it is what drives electric current through a conductor. It is measured in volts, symbolized by the letter V. In simple terms, voltage is the "push" that makes electrons move.

There are different types of voltages encountered in everyday life and in electrical systems. For instance, household electricity in Finland operates at a nominal voltage of 230 volts. This is a form of alternating current (AC), where the voltage periodically reverses direction. Batteries, on the other hand, provide direct current (DC) voltages, which are typically much lower, such as 1.5 volts for a standard AA battery or 12 volts for a car battery.

Higher voltages are used in power transmission to minimize energy loss over long distances. These can range from thousands to hundreds of thousands of volts. Conversely, very low voltages are used in sensitive electronic devices to protect components. Understanding different voltage levels is crucial for electrical safety and for the proper functioning of electrical and electronic equipment.
