Sähkömagneeteissa refers to electromagnets in Finnish. An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. Electromagnets usually consist of wire wound into a coil. When an electric current is passed through the wire, a magnetic field is generated. The strength of the magnetic field depends on the number of turns in the coil and the amount of current flowing through it. Often, an electromagnet is made by wrapping an insulated wire around a core of ferromagnetic material, such as iron. This core concentrates the magnetic field, making the electromagnet much stronger than it would be without the core.

The magnetic field of an electromagnet can be turned on or off by controlling the electric current. This ability to switch the magnetism on and off is a key feature that distinguishes electromagnets from permanent magnets. When the current is switched off, the magnetic field largely disappears. Electromagnets are widely used in various applications. They are found in electric motors, generators, relays, loudspeakers, hard drives, and MRI machines. Smaller electromagnets are used in electric bells, door locks, and magnetic cranes for lifting scrap metal. Their ability to create controlled and temporary magnetic fields makes them indispensable in many modern technologies.
