Szövetté is a Hungarian term that translates to "tissue" in English. In biology, a tissue is a group of cells that have similar structure and function. These cells are organized into tissues, which in turn form organs and organ systems.

There are four main types of animal tissues: epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissue covers the body's surfaces, lines body cavities, and forms glands. Connective tissue supports, protects, and binds other tissues together. Muscle tissue is responsible for movement, and nervous tissue transmits electrical signals for communication.

Plant tissues are also categorized. Meristematic tissues are responsible for plant growth, while permanent tissues are further divided into dermal, ground, and vascular tissues. Dermal tissue forms the outer protective layer, ground tissue fills the interior of the plant and performs various functions like photosynthesis and storage, and vascular tissue, composed of xylem and phloem, transports water, minerals, and sugars throughout the plant.

The study of tissues is called histology. Histologists examine tissues under microscopes to understand their structure, function, and any abnormalities that may indicate disease. The organization and interaction of these cellular building blocks are fundamental to the complexity and function of all living organisms.
