styrplatta

Styrplatta is a type of rail vehicle designed for public transportation services in Norway. It is a high-platform, motorized tramcar manufactured by the Volvo Group in partnership with Ulker and NOTT.

The word "styrplatta" translates to "drive plate" in Norwegian, which is in reference to the low floor design of the vehicle, allowing passengers to enter and exit the tram through the same doors used to accept fare payments. The name "Styrplatta" also reflects the driver's control environment, which is located at the front of the vehicle.

The Styrplatta is approximately 31 meters in length and has a gross vehicle weight of approximately 24 tons. The tram-car is designed to run on a glycol system, which cool both the diesel engine and the vehicle's electronics.

Styrplatta is employed primarily for bus-to-rail transportation, utilizing six main drives arranging a geared hub reducer that directs power to the four wheels on both axles of the trailer car. When moving without passengers, the articulated trailer stabilized rode structure reduces the motion between the two carriages.
