striazines
Triazines are heterocyclic aromatic compounds with a six-member ring bearing three nitrogen atoms. The most studied member is 1,3,5-triazine (s-triazine), with nitrogens at positions 1, 3 and 5. The spelling striazine is uncommon; while several isomers exist, 1,3,5-triazine is most widespread in industry and research, including 1,2,4- and 1,2,3-triazines.
These rings are electron-deficient and versatile building blocks. Key derivatives include cyanuric chloride (2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine) and melamine
Industrial uses include resins and coatings: melamine-formaldehyde and related resins for laminates and finishes; curing agents
Safety and environment: many triazines are persistent in soil and can contaminate water. Atrazine and related
