sportowczy

Sportowczy is a Polish adjective that denotes relation to sport or to athletes. It is formed from the noun sport with a suffix that invites comparison with related terms, and it is related to the more common adjective sportowy, which is used to describe things belonging to or characteristic of sport.

In terms of etymology, sportowczy appears to be built from the same root as sport and the general adjectival suffix used in Polish to indicate affiliation or characteristic. The standard term in everyday language is sportowy, while sportowczy is much rarer and is typically encountered in older texts, literary style, or in contexts where a more archaic or emphatic tone is desired.
