A splitsysteem is a type of air conditioning system that is divided into two main units: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit, typically mounted on a wall or ceiling, contains the evaporator coil and a fan to circulate air within the room. The outdoor unit houses the compressor, condenser coil, and a fan to release heat from the refrigerant. These two units are connected by refrigerant lines and electrical wiring.

The fundamental principle of a splitsysteem involves the refrigeration cycle. Refrigerant circulates between the indoor and outdoor units, absorbing heat from the indoor air and releasing it outdoors in cooling mode. In heating mode, the process is reversed, drawing heat from the outdoor air and transferring it indoors. This design allows for quieter operation indoors as the noisy compressor is located outside.

Splitsystemen are widely used in residential and commercial buildings for both cooling and heating purposes. They offer flexibility in installation and can be configured as single-zone systems (one indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit) or multi-zone systems (multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit), allowing for independent temperature control in different areas. Maintenance typically involves cleaning filters in the indoor unit and ensuring the outdoor unit is free from obstructions.
