spinothalamikus
The spinothalamic tract is a major ascending pathway in the central nervous system, responsible for transmitting pain and temperature sensations from the body to the brain. It is named for its two primary destinations: the spinal cord and the thalamus. The tract is composed of neurons that originate in the dorsal root ganglia and ascend through the spinal cord to synapse in the brainstem, specifically in the lateral spinothalamic nucleus. From there, the neurons cross to the opposite side of the brainstem and ascend through the medial lemniscus to the ventral posterior lateral (VPL) nucleus of the thalamus. The VPL nucleus then projects to the primary somatosensory cortex (SI), where the information is processed and interpreted as pain or temperature sensations.
The spinothalamic tract is crucial for the perception of pain and temperature, and damage to this pathway
