Somatisolu is a Finnish term that translates to "somatic cell" in English. Somatic cells are any biological cells forming all the body of a multicellular organism other than gametes, germ cells, gametocytes or undifferentiated stem cells. In contrast, germ cells are cells that give rise to sperm and egg cells. Somatic cells are diploid, meaning they contain two complete sets of chromosomes, one inherited from each parent. These cells make up all of the tissues and organs in the body, such as skin, muscle, bone, and nerve cells.
