Solitären is a card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The objective of the game is to move all the cards from the tableau into the four foundation piles, one for each suit, in ascending order from Ace to King.

The game begins with 28 cards dealt into seven columns on the tableau. The first column has one card, the second has two, and so on, up to the seventh column with seven cards. The top card of each column is turned face up. The remaining cards are placed in a stock pile, usually to the side.

Players can move face-up cards within the tableau. A card can be moved onto another card if it is of the opposite color and one rank higher. For example, a red 7 can be placed on a black 8. An entire sequence of cards in descending order of alternating colors can be moved together.

When a column becomes empty, any card from the stock pile or any face-up card from another tableau column can be moved into the empty space. If a player cannot make any moves, they can draw cards from the stock pile, usually three at a time. The top card of the drawn group is available for play.

The goal is to uncover face-down cards in the tableau and move cards to the foundation piles. Cards can be moved to a foundation pile if they are the correct suit and the next in ascending order. For example, the Ace of Spades starts a Spade foundation, followed by the 2 of Spades, and so on. The game is won when all 52 cards are successfully placed in the foundation piles. Solitären, also known internationally as Klondike, is a popular single-player game.
