Socializácia is a term with origins in sociology and psychology, referring to the lifelong process of inheriting and disseminating norms, customs, and ideologies. It is the means by which individuals learn to participate in social life, acquiring the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to function within their society. This process begins at birth and continues throughout a person's life, adapting to new social contexts and relationships.

The primary agents of socialization include family, peers, education, and mass media. The family is typically the first and most influential agent, instilling basic values and behaviors. As individuals grow, peer groups become increasingly important, shaping social interactions and attitudes. Schools provide formal education and expose individuals to a wider range of social norms and expectations. Mass media, including television, the internet, and social networking sites, also play a significant role in shaping perceptions and behaviors by disseminating cultural trends and information.

Socialization can be categorized into primary and secondary socialization. Primary socialization occurs during infancy and childhood, where individuals learn the fundamental aspects of their culture and society, primarily through family interactions. Secondary socialization takes place in later childhood and adulthood, as individuals learn to adapt to new social environments, such as school, work, or different cultural settings. Anticipatory socialization, a related concept, refers to the process of preparing for future roles or statuses by learning the norms and behaviors associated with them. Resocialization occurs when an individual undergoes a more dramatic shift in their life, such as joining the military or entering a religious order, requiring them to unlearn old behaviors and adopt new ones.
