Sisäyksikkö is a Finnish term that translates to "indoor unit" in English. It refers to a component of an air conditioning or heat pump system that is installed inside a building. The indoor unit is responsible for conditioning the air that circulates within the occupied space.

Typically, an indoor unit contains a fan, an evaporator coil (for cooling) or a condenser coil (for heating, in a heat pump system), and air filters. The fan draws in warm air from the room, passes it over the coils, and then returns the conditioned air back into the space. In cooling mode, the evaporator coil absorbs heat from the room air, making it cooler. In heating mode, the condenser coil releases heat into the room air, making it warmer.

Indoor units come in various forms, with the most common being wall-mounted split systems. Other types include ceiling cassettes, ducted units, and floor-standing units. The design and placement of the indoor unit are crucial for efficient and even distribution of conditioned air throughout the building. The outdoor unit, which contains the compressor and the other coil, is responsible for transferring heat to or from the outside environment. The two units are connected by refrigerant lines and electrical wiring.
