Single Sign-Out (SSO) is a security mechanism that allows a user to log out of one application or service and, in doing so, be automatically logged out of all other applications or services that are part of the same single sign-on session. This eliminates the need for the user to individually log out from each service they have accessed.

The process typically involves a central identity provider (IdP) that manages user authentication. When a user initiates a sign-out from one service, that service communicates with the IdP. The IdP then invalidates the user's session across all associated service providers (SPs). This communication is usually facilitated through specific protocols like SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) or OAuth.

Implementing single sign-out enhances user experience by reducing the number of logout actions required. It also improves security by ensuring that if a user forgets to log out of one service, their session is terminated across all connected services when they intend to end their overall access. This is particularly beneficial in environments where users access multiple internal or external applications.
