silmämunaa
Silmämunaa is the Finnish word for eyeball. It refers to the spherical structure within the orbit of the head that is responsible for vision. The eyeball contains several key components that work together to detect light and transmit visual information to the brain. The outer layer, the sclera, provides structural support and protection. The cornea, a transparent front part of the sclera, refracts light. Inside, the iris controls the amount of light entering the eye by adjusting the pupil, and the lens further focuses light onto the retina. The retina, located at the back of the eyeball, contains photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) that convert light into electrical signals. These signals are then processed by other neurons in the retina and transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve, where they are interpreted as images. The vitreous humor, a gel-like substance, fills the space behind the lens, maintaining the eyeball's shape. The proper functioning of the silmämunaa is crucial for sight.
