Siittiöaidio, also known as spermatogonium, is a diploid cell found in the seminiferous tubules of the testes. It is the primordial germ cell that undergoes mitosis to produce more spermatogonia and also differentiates into primary spermatocytes, initiating the process of spermatogenesis, the production of sperm. Spermatogonia are the stem cells of the male germline. They are located at the periphery of the seminiferous tubules, adjacent to the basal lamina.

There are two main types of spermatogonia: Type A and Type B. Type A spermatogonia are considered the stem cells and are responsible for maintaining the spermatogonial population through mitosis. They divide to produce more Type A spermatogonia and also Type B spermatogonia. Type B spermatogonia are committed to differentiation and will proceed to develop into primary spermatocytes.

The division of spermatogonia is a continuous process throughout a male's reproductive life. Hormones, particularly follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and testosterone, play crucial roles in regulating spermatogonial proliferation and differentiation. Damage to spermatogonia, such as from radiation or certain chemicals, can impair fertility. Understanding the behavior and function of spermatogonia is essential for comprehending male reproductive health and infertility.
