Signalées is the feminine plural form of the past participle signalé, from the verb signaler. In French, signalé/signalée/signalées signalent something that has been noted, indicated, or brought to attention. As an adjective or as part of a passive construction, signalées agrees in gender and number with the noun it modifies or with the subject of the sentence.

Usage and examples

Signalées is used to describe items that have been reported or identified in some way. For example: les anomalies signalées dans le rapport ont été corrigées (the reported anomalies in the report have been corrected) or des observations signalées par les témoins (observations reported by the witnesses). It also appears in passive voice constructions: les incidents signalées ont été examinées is incorrect because the participle must agree in gender with the feminine plural noun; the correct form would be les incidents signalés ont été examinés if the noun is masculine, or les anomalies signalées ont été examinées when the subject is feminine.

Grammatical notes

As a past participle used as an adjective, signalée/ signalées agrees with the noun it qualifies. When signaler is used with avoir in the past tense, the participle does not ordinarily agree with the subject, unless a preceding direct object would trigger agreement in a way that affects the feminine plural form in other constructions. In standard usage, signalées functions most often as a descriptive marker of items that have been brought to attention or reported.
