settigende

Settigende is a term that appears rarely in Norwegian-language sources and is not widely recognized as a standard word in major dictionaries. The form is typically understood as a nonstandard variant or misspelling of the present participle settende, which is derived from the verb sette meaning to place, set up, or install. In standard Norwegian, the present participle of sette is settende, and this form is used in constructions such as noe er settende i betydning, meaning “that which sets/places something.” The spelling settigende may occur in dialect writings, older texts influenced by Danish orthography, or as a typographical error in contemporary texts.

Because settende is the conventional form, the meaning of settigende is ambiguous without context. If encountered, possible readings include a reference to the act of placing or setting something, or a nominalized form meaning “the act of setting” or “one who sets” in archaic or dialectal usage.
