Sedimentárna refers to sedimentary rocks, which are formed from the accumulation and cementation of mineral or organic particles at the Earth's surface and in bodies of water. These particles, known as sediment, originate from the weathering and erosion of pre-existing rocks, or from biological activity. Over time, deposited sediment undergoes compaction, where the weight of overlying material presses the grains closer together, and cementation, where dissolved minerals precipitate in the pore spaces between grains, binding them into a solid rock.

Sedimentary rocks are classified into three main categories based on their origin. Clastic sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone and shale, are formed from fragments of other rocks. Chemical sedimentary rocks, like rock salt and gypsum, precipitate directly from water. Organic sedimentary rocks, such as coal and some limestones, are composed of the remains of plants and animals.

These rocks are significant because they often preserve fossils, providing crucial information about past life and environments. They are also important sources of natural resources, including oil, natural gas, coal, and various minerals. The study of sedimentary rocks, known as sedimentology, helps geologists understand Earth's history, tectonic processes, and the distribution of resources.
