Sebgyógyulással refers to the biological process by which a living organism repairs damaged tissue. This complex process involves a coordinated series of events that begin immediately after injury and continue until the tissue is restored. The primary goal of wound healing is to restore the integrity of the skin and underlying tissues.

The process can be broadly divided into four overlapping phases: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Hemostasis occurs first, where blood vessels constrict and platelets aggregate to form a clot, stopping bleeding. This is followed by the inflammatory phase, characterized by the arrival of white blood cells that clear debris and fight infection.

The proliferative phase involves the formation of new tissue. Fibroblasts produce collagen, which provides structural support, and angiogenesis occurs, forming new blood vessels to supply nutrients. Epithelialization also takes place, where new skin cells migrate to cover the wound surface. Finally, the remodeling phase, which can last for months or years, involves the reorganization and strengthening of the new tissue. Collagen is rearranged, and scar tissue is formed, which may be less functional than the original tissue.

Factors such as the size and depth of the wound, the presence of infection, the individual's nutritional status, and underlying medical conditions can significantly influence the rate and success of wound healing. Proper wound care, including keeping the wound clean and moist, is crucial to facilitate optimal healing and minimize complications.
