sRGB is a standard RGB color space created by HP and Microsoft in 1996 to achieve this goal. It was developed to be the standard color space for displays, printers, and the internet. The goal was to ensure that images would look the same on any device that supported the sRGB standard.

The sRGB color space is based on the primary colors of red, green, and blue. Each of these primary colors can be represented by a value from 0 to 255, where 0 represents the absence of the color and 255 represents the full intensity of the color. By combining these three primary colors in different proportions, a wide range of colors can be created.

sRGB is a device-dependent color space, meaning that the appearance of colors can vary depending on the device being used. However, it is designed to be a common reference point, so that colors are rendered as consistently as possible across different devices. This is achieved through a gamma correction curve that compensates for the non-linear response of many displays.

The sRGB color space is widely used on the internet and in digital photography. Most cameras and monitors are calibrated to sRGB by default. This makes it a practical choice for sharing images online and for general-purpose image editing. While other color spaces offer a wider gamut (range of colors), sRGB remains the most common and interoperable standard.
