Ribonükleik refers to a class of biological molecules and processes that involve ribonucleic acid (RNA). In Hungarian, the term ribonükleinsav denotes RNA, a polymer composed of ribonucleotides linked by phosphodiester bonds. RNA encodes genetic information, regulates gene expression, and participates in various cellular functions, including protein synthesis, catalysis, and the regulation of transcriptional activity.

In cellular biochemistry, ribonükleik structures include messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), ribosomal RNA (rRNA), small nuclear RNA (snRNA), and small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA). Each type of RNA plays a distinct role: mRNA carries codon information from DNA to ribosomes; tRNA delivers specific amino acids during translation; rRNA forms the core of ribosomal subunits and catalyzes peptide bond formation; snRNA is involved in splicing pre-mRNA; and snoRNA guides chemical modifications of other RNAs.
