Restaurációja is a Hungarian term that can refer to several distinct historical periods or events, all implying a return to a previous state or a re-establishment of a former regime. The most common and significant usage refers to the period in Hungarian history following the suppression of the 1848-1849 Revolution and War of Independence. This era, often called Neo-Absolutism or the Bach Absolutism, saw the reassertion of Habsburg imperial control over Hungary after a brief period of de facto independence.

During this restaurációja, Austrian authorities sought to centralize power, Germanize administration and education, and weaken Hungarian national identity. While a period of relative peace and economic development occurred in some areas, it was characterized by political repression and a significant curtailment of Hungarian autonomy. This period lasted until the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, which ushered in a new era of dual monarchy and a greater degree of Hungarian self-governance.

The term restaurációja can also be used more broadly to describe any restoration of a political system, a dynasty, or even a stylistic period in art or architecture, where elements from a preceding era are revived or reinstated. However, in Hungarian historical context, it overwhelmingly points to the post-1849 period of repression under Habsburg rule.
