Pöörlemisliikumine is the Estonian term for rotational motion. It describes the movement of a rigid body around a fixed axis or point. In this type of motion, all points on the body, except those on the axis of rotation, move in circular paths. The speed at which an object rotates is called angular velocity, often denoted by the Greek letter omega (ω). This can be measured in radians per second or revolutions per minute. The rate of change of angular velocity is known as angular acceleration, denoted by alpha (α).

The characteristic that defines rotational motion is the angular displacement, which is the angle through which the body has rotated. This is typically measured in radians. For rotational motion, there are analogous concepts to linear motion's force and mass. Torque, represented by the Greek letter tau (τ), is the rotational equivalent of force and causes angular acceleration. The rotational equivalent of mass is the moment of inertia, denoted by I. The moment of inertia depends on the mass of the object and how that mass is distributed relative to the axis of rotation. A greater moment of inertia means it is harder to change the object's rotational state. The relationship between torque, moment of inertia, and angular acceleration is given by the equation τ = Iα, which is the rotational equivalent of Newton's second law of motion (F = ma). Examples of rotational motion include a spinning top, a turning wheel, or the Earth revolving around its axis.
