They are hollow tubes made of protein subunits called tubulin. Microtubules are involved in maintaining cell shape, cell division, and intracellular transport. They act as tracks along which organelles and vesicles can move within the cell.

The cytoskeleton is constantly being remodeled and reorganized in response to cellular signals and environmental cues. This dynamic nature allows cells to adapt to changing conditions and perform a wide range of functions. Without a functional cytoskeleton, cells would be unable to maintain their shape, move, divide, or transport materials within themselves, leading to cell death.
