The responsibilities of the fastlege include diagnosing and treating common illnesses, managing chronic conditions, providing health checks, and offering referrals to specialists, hospitals, or other healthcare professionals when necessary. Beyond the fastlege, primærhelsetjenesten also includes other healthcare professionals such as nurses, dentists, physiotherapists, and psychologists working in public health clinics or private practices that have agreements with the public health system. Municipalities are responsible for organizing and delivering these primary healthcare services.
