predstavo

Predstava is a noun used in several South Slavic languages, most notably Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, and Serbian. It refers to a show or performance, usually a theatrical production such as a play, opera, or dance piece, but it can also denote a televised or filmed program presented to an audience. In everyday speech it may describe any planned event or display that is presented for entertainment or instruction.

Etymology and forms: The word comes from the verb predstaviti or predstavljati, meaning to present or introduce. It is built with the prefix pred- meaning before and a root related to placing or presenting. In gender, it is feminine; the base nominative form is predstava, while the accusative singular is predstavu in most South Slavic languages. The plural nominative is predstave in Slovenian; other dialects have similar forms.

Usage: In Slovenian, example sentences include Gledal sem predstavo (I watched a show). At the theater you would say Na predstavi (at the performance). In Croatian, Bosnian, and Serbian, similar constructions exist: Vidio sam predstavu; Predstava u kazalištu.
