Polyprenyls are a class of naturally occurring organic compounds characterized by a long hydrocarbon chain composed of repeating isoprene units. These molecules are a type of terpenoid, where the number of isoprene units can vary significantly, leading to a range of chain lengths. The isoprene unit is a five-carbon building block with the structure 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene. In polyprenyls, these units are linked together in a head-to-tail fashion, forming a chain.
