A planeedisüsteemis, or planetary system, is a collection of celestial bodies gravitationally bound to a star. The most prominent component of a planetary system is its central star, which typically accounts for the vast majority of the system's mass. Orbiting the star are planets, which are celestial bodies large enough to be rounded by their own gravity and to have cleared the neighborhood around their orbit.

Planetary systems can also contain smaller objects such as dwarf planets, asteroids, comets, and dust. Dwarf planets are similar to planets but have not cleared their orbital path of other debris. Asteroids are rocky, airless worlds, while comets are icy bodies that release gas or dust. The distribution and characteristics of these objects vary greatly between different planetary systems.

Our own solar system is an example of a planetary system, featuring the Sun as its central star and eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Beyond these planets, it includes dwarf planets like Pluto, numerous asteroids, and comets. The study of planetary systems, including our own, helps us understand planet formation, the potential for life elsewhere in the universe, and the overall structure of galaxies. Astronomers have discovered thousands of exoplanetary systems, systems orbiting stars other than our Sun, revealing a diverse range of configurations and compositions.
