pitkäsoittolevy
A pitkäsoittolevy, often translated as a long-playing record or LP, is a format of vinyl record. It is distinguished from a single or EP by its longer playing time. Typically, a pitkäsoittolevy contains around 20 to 30 minutes of music per side, allowing for a full album's worth of songs. These records are usually 12 inches in diameter and rotate at 33⅓ revolutions per minute (RPM). The LP format became dominant in the mid-20th century, revolutionizing how music was consumed and released, enabling artists to present cohesive collections of songs as albums. The grooves on a pitkäsoittolevy are much finer than those on a 78 RPM record, which contributes to its extended playing time and improved sound quality. While digital formats have largely replaced vinyl for everyday listening, the pitkäsoittolevy retains a significant cultural and artistic importance, particularly among audiophiles and collectors.
