Passbandviestintä, often translated as passband communication or passband signaling, refers to a method of transmitting information over a communication channel where the signal is modulated to occupy a specific frequency range, known as the passband. This is in contrast to baseband communication, where the signal is transmitted directly in its original frequency spectrum without modulation.

In passband communication, a carrier signal with a specific frequency is used. The information signal is then modulated onto this carrier, altering its amplitude, frequency, or phase. This modulation process shifts the signal's spectrum to the passband centered around the carrier frequency. This technique is crucial for many communication systems, including radio, television broadcasting, and wireless telecommunications, as it allows multiple signals to coexist on the same physical medium without interfering with each other by using different carrier frequencies.
