Ottaj is a municipality located in the Barcelonès comarca in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. It is situated approximately 10 kilometers north of Barcelona, the capital city of Catalonia. With a population of around 180 residents as of 2020, Ottaj is a small and quiet community.

The town covers an area of approximately 4.9 square kilometers and is nestled within the rolling hills of the Catalan countryside. Ottaj has a rich history and has been inhabited since ancient times, with archaeological evidence suggesting presence of human-settlement prior to the Roman era.

From the 16th to the 19th century, Ottaj was part of the estate of the Palau de la Mora family and was subject to the ruling of the local lord. However, during the Spanish War of Succession (1701-1714), the town experienced significant upheaval, resulting in a significant decrease in its population.

Today, Ottaj is a residential community that attracts individuals seeking a more rural lifestyle. While there are some local businesses, including a town hall, school, and a few small shops, the town's main income source is derived from its small-scale farming and agriculture practices.

As of 2010, Ottaj is predominantly Catalan-speaking, with only a handful of residents not speaking Catalan fluently. The local economy is supplemented by remittances and external temporary labor, as some residents work outside of the local area.
