Osszeifikáció is a Hungarian term that translates to ossification or bone formation in English. It refers to the process by which bone tissue is formed. This is a fundamental biological process that occurs throughout an organism's life, from embryonic development to adulthood. There are two primary types of ossification: intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification.

Intramembranous ossification is the direct formation of bone from mesenchymal connective tissue. This process is characteristic of the development of flat bones, such as those found in the skull, and the clavicles. Mesenchymal cells differentiate into osteoblasts, which secrete osteoid, the unmineralized bone matrix. This osteoid then undergoes mineralization, and the bone begins to form within the fibrous membrane.

Endochondral ossification is a more complex process that involves the formation of bone from a cartilage model. This is the primary mechanism for the development of most bones in the body, including the long bones of the limbs. Initially, a hyaline cartilage model is formed, which then undergoes changes. A periosteal collar forms, and blood vessels invade the cartilage, bringing osteoprogenitor cells. These cells differentiate into osteoblasts, which begin to deposit bone tissue. The cartilage within the developing bone is gradually replaced by bone tissue, forming the primary ossification center. Later, secondary ossification centers appear in the epiphyses of the bone. This process continues until adolescence, when the epiphyseal plates fuse, and bone growth ceases.
