Orderdatum is a term used in information systems to refer to the date on which an order is created. In practice it is a field in order records used across e-commerce, retail, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The term is common in German-speaking contexts, where the field name orderdatum may appear alongside English equivalents such as OrderDate or order_date.

Purpose and role: It identifies the starting point of an order and is distinct from delivery date, shipment date, or payment date. It enables sorting, filtering, and time-based analytics; supports revenue recognition, forecasting, and SLA tracking. In databases the orderdatum typically resides in an Order entity and is linked to customer, products, and line items.

Data types and quality: Orderdatum is usually stored as a date or timestamp. Time zone handling matters if orders originate from multiple regions. Some systems store only date; others store time to reflect order creation time. Quality concerns include missing values, inconsistent formats, and delays between order creation and system entry; standardization and validation improve reliability.
