opptaket

Opptaket is a Norwegian noun that can refer to two main concepts. In education, opptaket denotes the annual admissions process to higher education institutions such as universities and university colleges. In many cases, this process is organized through Samordna opptak, the national coordinated admissions system in Norway. Applicants submit a single application listing preferred study programs, sometimes with certain programs having prerequisites or entrance tests. Based on merit criteria—including grade point average, completed coursework, and program-specific requirements—ranking lists are produced, and offers are issued. Applicants can be placed on a waiting list and may receive subsequent reallocations. Acceptance must usually be confirmed by a deadline; those not admitted may apply again in future cycles or seek alternatives like different programs or institutions. There can also be quotas and special provisions for certain groups.
