An ohmeter is an electronic instrument used to measure electrical resistance. It quantifies how much a material or component opposes the flow of electric current. When using an ohmmeter, it is crucial that the circuit being tested is de-energized. Applying an ohmmeter to a live circuit can damage the instrument and provide inaccurate readings. For accurate measurements, the component being tested should ideally be isolated from the rest of the circuit. This ensures that the resistance measured is only that of the component itself and not influenced by other parallel paths.
