Oblast, plural oblasts, is a type of administrative division found in several Slavic countries, most notably Ukraine and formerly in the Soviet Union. The term is generally translated as "province" or "region." Oblasts serve as the primary level of sub-national government in these countries, holding significant administrative and territorial responsibilities.

In Ukraine, there are 24 oblasts. Each oblast has its own state administration headed by a governor, appointed by the President, and a regional council, elected by the people. These bodies are responsible for a wide range of functions including economic development, social services, education, healthcare, and infrastructure within their respective territories. The borders and powers of Ukrainian oblasts are defined by the country's constitution and relevant laws.

Historically, the concept of the oblast was a key component of the administrative structure of the Soviet Union. Soviet oblasts, while similar in their administrative role, operated under a different political system. Following the dissolution of the USSR, many of its successor states retained or adapted the oblast administrative model. The specific structure, powers, and number of oblasts can vary significantly between countries that utilize this administrative division.
