obdarovaný

Obdarovaný is a term used in several Slavic languages (notably Czech and Slovak) to denote a person who receives a gift or donation. In legal contexts it corresponds to the English terms donee or recipient and identifies the counterparty to a gift contract (darovací smlouva). The donor (dárce) transfers ownership or another right to the obdarovaný, who must accept the gift for the transaction to take effect.

As a party to a gift agreement, the obdarovaný’s rights and duties depend on the terms of the gift and on applicable law. Legal capacity to receive property, formal requirements for certain transfers (for example, real estate), tax consequences, and the possibility of revocation or conditional gifts vary by jurisdiction. In some systems, gifts can be retracted under limited circumstances (fraud, coercion, failure to fulfil conditions) or may affect inheritance shares if made shortly before death.

Outside formal law, obdarovaný may be used more broadly to mean someone endowed with a quality or talent. In everyday usage the context usually makes clear whether the sense is “recipient of a gift” or “person possessing a special ability.” For specific legal questions about rights, tax treatment, or the enforceability of a gift, consulting local legislation or a qualified lawyer is recommended, since rules differ between countries.
