Nyirokáramlási refers to the flow of lymph within the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and nodes that plays a crucial role in the body's immune defense and fluid balance. Lymph, a clear fluid containing white blood cells, proteins, and waste products, originates from the interstitial fluid that surrounds cells. As this fluid enters the lymphatic capillaries, it becomes lymph.

This lymph then travels through progressively larger lymphatic vessels, propelled by muscle contractions, the pulsing of nearby arteries, and the smooth muscle in the walls of the lymphatic vessels themselves. Along its journey, the lymph passes through lymph nodes, which are small, bean-shaped organs scattered throughout the body. These nodes filter the lymph, removing pathogens like bacteria and viruses, as well as abnormal cells. Immune cells within the lymph nodes identify and destroy these harmful substances.

The lymphatic vessels eventually converge into two main ducts: the thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct. These ducts empty the filtered lymph back into the bloodstream at the subclavian veins, near the heart. This process ensures that excess fluid and waste products are returned to circulation, preventing tissue swelling (edema) and contributing to overall health. Disruptions in nyirokáramlási can lead to lymphedema, a condition characterized by persistent swelling.
