Nyirokszervek refer to organs of the lymphatic system. This system is a crucial part of the immune system and works to protect the body from infection. Primary lymphoid organs are where lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, are produced and mature. These include the bone marrow, where all blood cells, including lymphocytes, are generated, and the thymus, a gland located behind the sternum where T lymphocytes mature.

Secondary lymphoid organs are where mature lymphocytes encounter antigens and initiate an immune response. These include the lymph nodes, small bean-shaped structures that filter lymph and house lymphocytes, the spleen, which filters blood and contains lymphocytes, and lymphoid tissues such as Peyer's patches in the small intestine and tonsils in the throat. These organs play a vital role in identifying and fighting off pathogens. The continuous circulation of lymph through these organs ensures a constant surveillance against disease. Dysfunction of lymphoid organs can lead to compromised immunity and increased susceptibility to infections and certain cancers.
