Neutronösszetétel refers to the concept of a neutron being composed of smaller subatomic particles. Historically, neutrons were considered fundamental particles. However, experimental evidence and theoretical advancements in particle physics have led to the understanding that neutrons are not elementary. Instead, they are classified as composite particles, specifically baryons.

The current model of neutronösszetétel describes a neutron as being made up of three fundamental particles called quarks. A neutron consists of one up quark and two down quarks. Quarks are held together by the strong nuclear force, mediated by particles called gluons. This strong interaction is responsible for binding quarks together to form protons and neutrons. The up quark carries an electric charge of +2/3, while the down quark carries a charge of -1/3. The combination of one up quark (+2/3) and two down quarks (-1/3 + -1/3 = -2/3) results in a net charge of zero for the neutron, consistent with its observed neutral electrical property. The internal structure of a neutron, including the dynamic interactions between its constituent quarks and gluons, is a complex area of study in quantum chromodynamics.
