Nestekiertojäähdytys, also known as liquid cooling, is a method of heat removal that utilizes a liquid as the heat transfer medium. This process involves circulating a liquid through a system to absorb heat from a source and then dissipating that heat elsewhere. Commonly used liquids include water, ethylene glycol mixtures, or specialized dielectric fluids, depending on the application and temperature requirements.

The basic principle involves a closed loop. A pump circulates the liquid from a reservoir or heat exchanger to the component or area that needs to be cooled. As the liquid flows over or through the heat-generating component, it absorbs thermal energy. The heated liquid then travels back to a heat exchanger or radiator, where it releases the absorbed heat to the surrounding environment or another cooling medium. This cooled liquid is then pumped back to the heat source, continuing the cycle.

Liquid cooling offers several advantages over air cooling, particularly in applications generating significant heat or requiring very precise temperature control. It can achieve higher heat dissipation rates, operate more quietly, and allow for more compact designs by removing heat from sensitive areas. It is widely employed in high-performance computers, industrial machinery, automotive engines, and even in some consumer electronics.
