naplónak

Naplónak is a Hungarian grammatical form: it is the dative singular of napló, meaning diary or logbook. In a sentence, naplónak marks the indirect object or recipient of an action, equivalent to “to the diary” or “for the diary” in English. The term napló refers to a personal diary as well as to official logbooks or records.

In ordinary use, naplónak appears with verbs that take a recipient or beneficiary, such as írni, küldeni, or szándékozni. It can also introduce a noun phrase describing something directed toward the diary, for example a message written for the diary or a note addressed to the diary. The dative form follows Hungarian vowel harmony: singular is naplónak, while the plural dative is naplóknak (to the diaries).

Examples:

- Írok a naplónak. I write to the diary.

- A naplónak írt üzenet megnyugtató. The message written for the diary is reassuring.

- A naplónak szánt bejegyzést a szerkesztő megvizsgálta. The entry intended for the diary was reviewed by the editor.

Napló a magyar nyelvben többféle jelentésben használható: személyes napló (diary) vagy hivatalos nyilvántartás (logbook). A naplónak formát tehát a mondat szerkezetétől függően az indirekt tárgy funkciójára használják. For plural references, naplóknak would be used in the dative case.
