määritysraja

Määritysraja (literally “definition boundary”) is a concept used to describe the limit or boundary that determines what is included within a definition, specification, or classification. The term is formed from määritys meaning definition or specification and raja meaning border or limit. In Finnish academic and technical language, määritysraja refers to the edge of the scope of a given definition: everything inside the boundary belongs to the defined set or category; things outside fall outside it. The concept is used across disciplines to discuss how definitions constrain analysis, categorization, or interpretation.

In linguistics and lexicography, määritysraja helps delimit the semantic field of a term, guiding which senses or usages are considered part of its standard meaning. In logic and mathematics, it can describe a threshold that determines whether a statement or property applies to a given object, effectively shaping predicates and classifications.
